ÉVORA, PORTUGAL 2002-2003
The project basically consists of expanding the living room to the detriment of part of the area currently occupied by the kitchen, in order to allow a greater relationship between the kitchen and the patio.
After the demolitions necessary for such an operation, I proposed to fill in the resulting large span with a single glazing mounted from the inside, so that the frame is not visible from the patio, but still takes on its contemporary character. When retracted on the kitchen wall, it will allow the extension of the room to the outside. The interior floor will be in natural colored smoothed screed. The organization of the interior space is done through the introduction of a set of cabinets in carpentry.
In the courtyard we proposed the demolition of a series of beds of ridiculous appearance and size introduced by the previous owner, as well as the replacement of the aluminum gate with one of the original design of the project. The floor would be in pebble on which there would be a small film of water, filtered and in recirculation, being able to close when desired. The presence of water, the shadow of the high walls and the vegetation that in the meantime grew on the walls of the patio, would constitute an unexpected and fresh place in contrast to the characteristic aridity of the streets in Alentejo, like the ones so magnificently designed in the neighborhood.
