LANZAROTE, CANÁRIAS 2011
It is a landscape of contrasts: The white of the houses against the black of the ‘malpaís’. The blue of the ocean and the green of the plants. The horizontality of the water against the topography sculpted from the bowels of the earth.
The large scale of events on the planet, against the minuscule dimension of human activities on it.
Entering the field, it is black that dominates the landscape, punctuated into spaces by small white volumes of buildings.
In urban centers, on the other hand, white becomes almost the only reality, and the black of the ground can only be seen from a distance, in the elevations of the craters that design the horizon, or in the lava stone that covers walkways. and walls.
What we propose with this building is to define a point of balance between both systems, a volume of lime, contemporary in its form, sustainable in its operation and construction, which houses in its interior a black topography, a crater of light, air, shadow. and humidity.
A built void that resembles notable spaces on the island, such as caves and jameos resulting from volcanic processes, and here allows the building to breathe naturally.
